ALA's Office of Public Affairs promotes the interests of Latvian Americans both in the United States and in Latvia. It maintains contacts with the United States government and legislative offices, as well as with the Latvian diplomatic corps and government, keeping them informed about the Latvian American community's position on various issues. The Office of Public Affairs informs the press, its members and other Latvian organizations worldwide about events affecting Latvian Americans. It publishes the tri-quarterly English and Latvian-language newsletter Latvian Dimensions.

ALA is a member of the Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC), which unites ALA with Estonian and Lithuanian American organizations in projects of pan-Baltic concern. JBANC maintains contacts with the executive and legislative branches of the US government as well as the US press. ALA's representatives to JBANC are Ingrida Lusis and Nikolajs Timrots.

The Central and East European Coalition (CEEC) comprises 18 national membership organizations representing more than 22 million Americans who trace their heritage to that part of the world. The CEEC believes strongly that the long-term national security and economic interests of the United States demand an unwavering commitment to and sustained engagement with the Central and East European countries. ALA represents Latvian American interests in the CEEC. Other CEEC member organizations are: the Armenian Assembly of America, The Belarussian Congress Committee of America, the Bulgarian Institute for Research and Anallysis, Congress of Romanian Americans, Inc., Czechoslovak National Council of America, Estonian American National Council, Inc., The Georgian Association in the USA, Inc., Hungarian American Coalition, The Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc., Lithuanian American Council, Inc., Lithuanian American Community, Inc., National Federation of American Hungarians, Polish American Congress, Slovak League of America, Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Inc., Ukrainian National Association, Inc., U.S. Baltic Foundation. ALA's representative to the CEEC is Ausma Tomsevics.
