Volunteer Work

ALA has very low overhead expenses because of the many fine volunteers that help out at ALA’s Office in Rockville, MD as well as on special projects in other cities. If you have the time and energy, we welcome your assistance.

Organizers Needed: Currently ALA is sponsoring a traveling exhibit of the Occupation Museum of Latvia. This exhibit describes Latvia’s recent history, its experiences under both Nazi and Soviet occupations, the regaining of its independence and its progress in building a peaceful, democratic and upwardly mobile nation. This exhibit was first unveiled by Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) and President Vaira Vike-Freiberga of Latvia in the Rotunda of the US Senate Office Building, followed by showings in Cincinnati, Madison, and Chicago. Others are planned for Boston and in New York. We are looking for additional volunteers to organize the showing of this exhibit in other cities. The exhibit is a valuable aid to acquainting the American public and its elected officials with Latvia and its efforts to become a contributing partner to a peaceful world.
